Echosong poked her head into the nursery. She needed to catch up with her old friend and tell her her news. The nursery was relatively dark, despite the fact it was daytime. "Brushfire?" she called softly. She didn't want to wake the kits if they were asleep.

Brushfire lifted her head and purred her special purr that sounded like a lion's warning growl shrunk to cat size.
"Hello Echosong," she mewed solftly.
Three bundles of fur were wrestling on the other side of the den. There were the two toms, and the two were light and dark blue-grey, one with siamese-markings and stripes, the darker one with just the siamese markings. One had Brushfire's extreme green eyes, the next had blank baby blue eyes. The she-cat was bigger than the both of them, a very dark brown tabby with green eyes.

Echosong smiled as she caught sight of the kits. She sat next to Brushfire and sighed softly. "What are their names?" She asked.

Brushfire flicked her tail to the brown she-cat, who was odviously the older and leader of the litter. "That one is Hawkkit," she purred to Echosong. Then she pointed to the lighter blue-grey, siamese-tabby tom with her extreme green eyes. "That is Grasskit," And then she pointed to the darker blue-grey siamese tom with completely blank, pupilless and fully blue eyes. "That's Oskarkit. He's blind, poor fellow."

Echosong smiled as Brushfire mentioned Oskarkit. "I know he's blind, but I think he's my favorite. Although I guess I shouldn't pick." She laughed softly and layed down where she was, stretching her back legs out behind her. "I have news." She murmured excitedly.

"Don't tell me," she purred her lion's purr louder in dark amusement, "You and Maliceheart? He's like a brother to me, he's already told me, to get to the point. I'm really happy for you two~" But then she sighed. "If only Goosewhisker could be here to see his sons and daughter now."

"I'm sorry you lost Goosewhisker." She flicked her good ear. "Do you think it's too early to ask him if we can have kits? I really want to enjoy the little things...." She looked up as she heard the kits running closer.

"Much too earley," she purred, "You've only been engaged since yesterday. And don't be sorry for Goosewhisker, he died in vein." The kits tumbled taword them. They sat down in a row, Hawkkit in the middle. Soon after they did, Echosong saw why she was named Hawkkit, her mew sounded like a hushed hawk's cry. "Who are you?" It was directed at Echosong.

Echosong pricked her ears at the she-kit. "I'm your mother's friend, Echosong." She smiled, despite the fact that she was extremely self-concious of her scars. She was nervous one of the kits would ask about it, so she pinned her ripped ear against her head nervously.

Hawkkit tilted her head, and mewed again with her hawk voice, "Echosong? Pretty name! I'm Hawkfeather!" Brushfire purred and licked her kit's head. "Not yet you airn't," she mewed with her voice of lightning hitting ground. Grasskit spoke now. His voice was soft, like walking on soft grass on a slightly windey day. "You have green eyes, too." It was also directed at Echosong. "They're really pretty."
"I wish I could see them..." Oskarkit mewed simpley. His voice was soft, softer than Grasskit's, softer than the sound of the oscars swimming peacefully deep under the crashing surface of the water. His voice was almsot as gurgling as the water, yet soft and serene and calm like the very bed of Rush River, still with the tint of the lighting voice of lynx and meow of cat.

Echosong stopped short as Oskarkit commented. Her face grew sad for the young tom. "I bet it's tough not being able to see. But you can do so much more. Without your sight, youu can hear and smell things us normal cats can't. You're special, Oskarkit. Never forget that. It's what makes you who you are." Echosong heard her mother's voice in her head, guiding her, telling her what to say to the young kit. So much wisdom.... Thank you mother! She called in her mind. She could feel her mother's presence beside her, purring, as she looked over the young kits. She wanted her daughter to be happy. And she knew bearing Maliceheart's kits would make her the happiest cat in the forest.

Oskarkit listened to Echosong. His ears pricked. "Do you really think so?" came the hushed, but happy sound of running water. "Am... Am I...?" Brushfire glanced at Echosong and chuckled, nuzzling Oskarkit. "Yes, you are very special. Special indeed."
Hawkkit and Grasskit had gone back to playing a few minutes back.

Echosong noddedn "Oh yes. In fact, my dad's dad's brother, who was born outside the Clans, was blind. And he helped a whole group of kittypets. He saved them from Twolegs and their dogs. He had help, of course, but it was mostly him." She felt her mother's spirit stiffen as she told the story and she glanced at her out of the corner of her eye. Of she could see her.... She looked at Brushfire. There was no indication the she-cat had seen her mother.

(Brushfire might, but seeing that Brushfire's evil mother stands by her side all the time, she might not notice Echo's mom. xD)
Oskarkit purred. His purr was like his mother's, a hushed lion growl. He felt around and got on his back paws, and licked both the she-cats' noses, then scrambled off to play.

Echosong purred as he ran off. "It's so rewarding. At least, I thinnk it is. Do you love having them all the time? Before they're apprentices, I mean."
